Robotic Bottle Unscrambler
Bottle Unscrambling is a perfect application for high speed Delta robots. Bottles dumped into hopper are fed and oriented using a linearizer unit and with the help of vision systems, conveyor tracking and software, the bottle coordinates and provided to the robots.
Delta robots equipped with pneumatic or servo actuators pick up horizontally oriented bottles from the conveyor, rotates them 90 degrees and places them into pucks that move along a servo-controlled timing screw. This automated process replaces the repetitive task of manual bottle feeding.
For non-symmetrical bottles, the vision system and robot ensure accurate orientation, guaranteeing proper cap placement and optimizing downstream filling operations.
We integrate the following elements for perfect Bottle Unscrambling
- High Capacity Hoppers for easy loading and gentle feeding of bottles
- Vision systems and conveyor tracking for bottle orientation and co-ordinates
- Timing screws for puck handling and feeding
- Oscillating linearizer systems with automatic adjustment for multiple bottle sizes
- Bottle pick conveyors
- Bottle recirculation conveyors
- Puck recirculation conveyors
- Easy Purge and toolless model changeover

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Bottles are loaded in bulk into a high-capacity hopper. A linearizer unit feeds and orients bottles onto a pick conveyor. A vision system reads each bottle’s position and orientation and passes coordinates to the delta robots. The robots equipped with pneumatic or servo actuators pick bottles lying horizontally, rotate them 90 degrees, and place them upright into pucks on a servo-controlled timing screw that feeds the downstream filling machine.
The system handles round, square, oval, and custom non-symmetrical bottle shapes. For non-symmetrical bottles, the vision system identifies the correct orientation so caps and labels align correctly downstream. Supported materials include PET & HDPE. Software adjustments and minor tooling changes adapt the same system to different bottle formats without replacing major mechanical components.
Conventional mechanical unscramblers rely on fixed mechanical guides and tooling for each bottle format changeover is slow and requires physical replacement of components. The robotic system accommodates multiple bottle sizes and shapes on the same line, offers quick toolless format changeover, handles non-symmetrical bottles accurately via vision, and can scale by adding robots as volume grows. There are minimal fixtures to replace when adding new variants, which reduces the long-term cost of product range expansion.
Changeover is managed through software recipe selection and servo actuation, rather than mechanical component swaps. Optional servo actuators can be installed for auto adjustment. The switchover is fast and does not require specialist tools or extended downtime. This makes the system practical for production environments that run multiple SKUs or regularly introduce new bottle formats.
The vision system scans bottles on the pick conveyor to determine each bottle’s position and orientation in real time. It provides coordinates to the robot controller so the delta robot picks each bottle accurately regardless of how it arrives on the conveyor. For asymmetric bottles, the vision system also identifies the correct rotational orientation to ensure caps, labels, and filling spouts align correctly downstream. Conveyor tracking allows the robot to pick bottles while the conveyor is in motion, maintaining throughput.
Since the bottles are randomly spaced on the conveyor, all the bottles cannot be picked up by the robots. Some of the bottles will go past the robots and have to be sent back to the hopper.
Puck Recirculation conveyors return empty pucks that do not have a bottle. This is also due to the random spacing of bottles on the conveyor. Sometimes, bottles may not be available for the robots due to the spacing and empty pucks without bottles will result in liquid spillage at the filling machine. Our puck recirculation conveyors ensure that there are no empty bottles at the filling machine.
Yes. The modular design allows additional delta robots to be integrated into the system as production volumes increase. This means the initial investment can be sized to current capacity, with a clear upgrade path that does not require replacing the base system.
Each system undergoes FAT at Synapse Robotics’ facility before delivery. FAT verifies that the system performs to the agreed specifications including throughput speed and orientation accuracy. Changeover procedures can be demonstrated to customers. FAT gives the customer evidence of performance before the system ships, reducing commissioning risk on site.
The key inputs are: bottle dimensions (height, diameter, and shape), material (PET, HDPE), required line speed in bottles per minute, number of bottle formats to be handled on the same line, downstream equipment (filler, capper, labeller) make and model, and available floor space. This allows the robot count, linearizer size, and puck/timing screw configuration to be matched to your actual production requirements.
